Foreign Fields - Anywhere But Where I Am

So you may remember a little while ago I did an extensive post on a band called Flights. Well I was wondering why their beautiful album Anywhere But Where I Am had suddenly disappeared. Well the album hadn’t really disappeared, Flights had just relocated to Foreign Fields. They’re comfortable there, they’re in a content environment and they’re selling a hard copy of their debut album, which they indeed will ship to England. Stream it, or better buy it because the journey the music takes you is arresting. The production and diversity is opulent. Trust.

Mahogany Hand Glider - Naked Huf

Can’t say it’s very often that I post more than just a track on here. I think that’s bad though as the whole industry seems to just be based on singular tracks these days and it doesn’t seem to get anyone anywhere. So here is a band that has nothing to do with the ‘industry’ - Mahogany Hand Glider. They’re a instrumental-quintet from Leeds and this, Naked Huf, is their second EP. The progression is a wonderful thing to hear and the production is tight. Rinse it loud.

Arthur Beatrice - Midland

AB have sprouted a minimalistic video directed by Barcelona native Rita Lino for their debut single Midland.

S/S/S - Beyond Any Doubt

Great video for s/s/s’s Beyond Any Doubt directed by David Dean Burkart, who has also has already worked with s/s/s’s Sufjan Stephens. This project is exciting. Cop a listen to the EP below.

Virginia Wing - Divination

Virginia Wing are one of those bands who have started to get a lot of attention without playing a gig. I can’t say I’m a big fan of that sort of thing, but sometimes you’re powerless to the chain effect of the blogs, so can you blame them? Problem is, a lot of people are going to turn up to see them live, for the first time, and it’s not easy to play live for the first time, so they could be shit and then you’ve really fucked it. Anyway, I like this song, I like it’s attitude, and off the back of it I’m going to go and see them live. Maybe at the second one. Dates below.

28/03/12 - Kristina Records w/ Omi Palone. FIRST SHOW
02/04/12 - The Waiting Room

Filthy Boy - Waiting On The Doorstep

Saw these south-london geezers last night supporting Jamie N Commons. They have something. I’m not sure what, but its something. Probably the same something that all great bands have when they start. They’re all relatively young so there is room for improvement but they have ‘it’, whatever ‘it’ may be. Jamie N Commons on the other hand, who although sounded amazing and pulled off ‘the look’ perfectly, is the biggest 70’s pirate of all time. There was no originality to be seen in his set-up whatsoever. Shame because he’s alright y’know.

Joey Bada$$ x Capital Steez - Survival Tactics

Oh man this track right here is sick. 17 year old Brooklyn native Joey Bada$$ debuts his video for “Survival Tactics” the first release off his solo Project “1999” slated to drop late march 2012. The song features fellow Brooklyn based artist Capital STEEZ . Joey along with Steez are original memebers of the BK based movement Pro.Era. The project is being released by SOW.

Stockhaus - HI!

Stockhaus, is the side project of Ungdomskulen’s lead singer-guitarist Kristian Stockhaus, and for a side project it’s pretty fucking good. Stockhaus is living in Bergen, Norway, and yeah having just visited Norway for the first time I may have a minor obsession with it and am currently aiming to promote anything Scandinavian, like knitted cardigans, woolen thermals and licorice. If you don’t like it then you can come back in a couple of months when I would have been to Spain and built up a minor obsession with flamenco and sangria and if you don’t like that then I don’t know what’s wrong with you. Go check yourself in.

I Can Chase Dragons! - Republique

C-LOS is back and living in Brooklyn.

I Can Chase Dragons! Is the musical creation of Julio Gudiño, based in Mexico. “Republique” is a really strong tune, and showcases the experimental pop of I Can Chase Dragons! Their debut LP “Expansions” will be the first release of Mexican label Dos Pelicanos. It’ll be interesting to see whether or not they cross over into the American market, which remains to be seen. “Republique’ is just a JAM, so enjoy.

INDIANS

Here’s the Danish act/man INDIANS. I know virtually nothing about them/him. When I say ‘virtually’ I mean I know absolutely nothing. I’m going to liken the track below a little bit to Youth Lagoon, but maybe that’s a bit to obvious. I know the music made in Copenhagen, Denmark and I’d like to thank Stingby for the tip. Lets see where this one goes.

Korallreven - As Young As Yesterday

This a little late. It’s too good to pass up though. Those silky Swedes. wtf.

Flights - Anywhere But Where I Am

Flights, wow, this is quite simply captivating. Two guys from Wisconsin (that state that Bonny Bear comes from) now relocated in the Music City, Nashville. Brian and Eric wrote and recorded their album Anywhere But Where I Am in 2011 and released in on 1st January 2012. The album displays a blissful simplicity that seems to be forgotten in so much modern music. The talent is there so no need to over complicate it. This is a masterpiece and it’s completely. Amazing.

Alt-J ∆ - Fitzpleasure

Al-t J have a new song, that’s good news considering I have considerably overplayed the last four tracks to their raw, bloody stumps. I still enjoy them all mind you. Fitzpleasure is great, manically great! The deep keyboard bass is reminiscent of the short-lived but fantastic One Day As A Lion, the collaboration between Zach De La Rocha and Jon Theodore. Anyway, give this a listen and turn it up load, its a good step for Alt-J who could have either gone down an acoustic folky route or more electric. Maybe I’ll blog a bit more this year. So far, so bad. PEACE

Arthur Beatrice - What We Hoped To Achieve (Live)

I’m strongly advising you to have a look at Arthur Beatrice’s first sound recording to have surfaced on the interweb. I realise I said look - it’s a video, a live studio video. peep it here. If you ever wondered what direction music might take in 2012 this could be a clue. Its thought out. There’s more intelligence in this than in most other songs of that ilk, and their obscurity leads you on to be intrigued by their nondescript character. Perhaps the Guardian ruined it slightly with their information outlet on NBOTD but it had to come out at some point. Their website is far from boring too www.online-presence.info

Secret Connection - Blackout

Photo found HERE

This song reminds me of being 16, but in a good way. Tipped by Crack In The Road as what the vaccines would sound like if they were any good, Toronto’s Secret Connection are doing it, well, on this song they are. Anyway, enough from that side of the Atlantic.
